Korakia Pensione

My Desert Heaven

The place I go when I need to remember that everything is LOVE…

Korakia Pensione, a Retreat Like No Other

Restored in 1989, Dar Marroc was renamed Korakia (Greek for “crow”) and crafted into a Mediterranean-style resort. The resort, now housed in two lovingly restored historic villas, rests on 1.5 lush acres, consisting of bungalows, guesthouses, gardens and pools.

I first came to Korakia nearly five years ago. My life was in shambles, I was navigating life after divorce, and trying to grasp whom I was supposed to be in this new chapter of my life. So I took a trip and ate, prayed, loved my way out of the chaos! But that’s a story for another time. This one is to share with you the place that brought me back home to myself.

It’s the only place I stay in Palm Springs. No children, no loud music by the pool, just the sound of the fountains, waterfall, and birds chirping from one bougainvillea vine to another.

When you arrive, you’re greeted by a couple gorgeous doors in a Mediterranean courtyard.

The pensione is split into two areas, A Moroccan Villa and a Mediterranean Villa, one on either side of the street, and each side has a salt-water pool. I love the Mediterranean Villa. There’s quite a few loungers around the pool as well as outdoor beds, perfect for afternoon napping, reading a book and meditating.

And if you get tired of sitting by the pool, there’s always bocce ball!

The rooms are amazing! Most of them have kitchenettes, so you can bring some drinks and snacks to enjoy poolside. But if you forget, don’t worry, lunch is offered for purchase - yummy crudités plates and such) and is served poolside. Downtown Palm Springs is just an easy walk away for dinner.

And the most amazing, complimentary breakfast is served each morning in the Moroccan courtyard.

At night, staff lights candles, lanterns, and fire pits around the property and really illuminates the property! Vintage movies are shown on the yoga deck. And the pools are open 24 hours and it’s the perfect way to end a hot evening after dinner with a quick dip in the pool.

This will forever be my sanctuary, year after year.
